Ghanaian central defender, Gabriel Issah Ahmed says he is satisfied with his contribution for the Black Stars during last Sunday’s 2010 African Nations Cup and World Cup against Gabon.

The Randers FC player lasted some 60 minutes during the game at the Ohene Djan Stadium after being forced off by a hamstring injury as he marked his return to the Ghana team for the first time since December 2006.

Issah picked up the injury eight minutes into the game but returned to play on before calling for his substitution in the second half.

“There was a problem but I had to maintain it and continue for the rest of the first half and also had to come back after the first half.

“My colleagues told me to be strong and keep on if I could. I played but I couldn’t carry on and I had to call for my substitution,” the defender said in a post match interview on Sunday.

A strong performance in central defence where he played alongside captain, John Mensah has given Issah Ahmed some hope of maintaining a place in the Ghana team as he evaluates his general performance.

“I am happy to be back in the squad and I think with my performance tonight (Sunday), I would say it was OK.

“I am satisfied with the minutes I had but then the hamstring injury forced me off,” Issah Ahmed added.
