Black Satellites captain Aziz Misbau was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) following his outstanding performance in the 1-1 draw with Nigeria in the opening match of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship on Thursday.

The striker was instrumental in Ghana’s strong start, capping his display with a sensational goal in the first half to give the Black Satellites the lead. His powerful strike into the roof of the net set the tone for what was an intense and competitive clash between two of West Africa’s footballing giants.

Aziz’s influence went beyond the goal, as he marshalled the midfield with maturity, broke up play with key interceptions, and dictated the tempo for much of the game. His leadership on the pitch was evident as Ghana matched Nigeria's physicality and pace throughout the encounter.

Despite Nigeria equalizing in the second half through a header from Abdullahi Muhammed, Aziz remained composed and continued to drive his team forward, earning applause from the home supporters at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The MVP award adds to a growing reputation for the young captain, who is seen as a vital figure in Ghana’s quest to qualify for the semi-finals. His performance will be a major boost for coach Desmond Ofei’s side ahead of their next game with Benin in Group A.

Ghana will now have to beat Benin in their last group game to be able to qualify for the semi-finals in the tightly contested group.
