Christine Ziga has been retained as Chairperson of the Referees Appointment Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), reaffirming her leadership role in one of the sport's most vital administrative bodies. Ziga continues in this capacity as the committee prepares for another season of evaluating and appointing match officials across various domestic competitions.
C.W. Okai will serve as the Vice Chairman of the committee, bringing with him a wealth of experience in refereeing and oversight. His inclusion ensures continuity and strategic support to Ziga’s leadership as the committee works to uphold standards and integrity in officiating.
A notable change in the composition of the committee is the appointment of Jones Akubiem, who joins as a new member following the exit of Daniel Agboga, the Volta Regional FA Chairman.
Jones Akubiem brings nearly two decades of on-field officiating experience to the role, having officially retired from refereeing in 2022 after an illustrious 19-year career. His depth of knowledge and understanding of the game from a referee’s perspective is expected to enhance the effectiveness of the committee’s decisions.
In addition to his refereeing background, Akubiem is a professional teacher with the Ghana Education Service, which positions him to contribute a disciplined and structured approach to the committee’s operations.
The Referees Appointment Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring fairness, transparency, and competence in the assignment of referees for matches nationwide.
