Title race still open

AshantiGold keep the title race still open after a hard fought 1-0 away win over Bofoakwa Tano at the Coronation Park on Sunday.

The win keeps on hold Accra Hearts of Oak’s dream of a 19th league title for now after having won a day before.

The Miners now move to second on the table and are six points adrift leaders, Hearts of Oak who need just a point to clinch the title with two games to end the season.

Bofoakwa Tano, who are caught up in the relegation battle have themselves to blame for not managing at least a point as near misses and good goalkeeping by George Owu denied them a goal.

However, the Miners had to wait until the second half before picking the booty from the grounds through a 40-yard drive by Kweku Sarpong.

The home side piled on the pressure for the equaliser but poor finishing up front denied them a goal as the Miners run away with the win and now seem to send the league to the wire.

At the Swedru Park, Feyenoord Academy came out victors in the five-goal thriller as the relegation battling side beat Great Olympics 3-2.

The game was settled within the first 45 minutes as Feyenoord now boost their chances of a stay in the premiership at least for now with two games remaining as they move 13th on the table.

Feyenoord got onto the scorecards first in the 9th minute when Ganiyu Iddi put them in the lead finishing off a pass from Dominic Adiyah.

Six minutes later, Dominic Adiyah found the back as Feyenoord raced into a 2-0 lead.

Great Olympics got back into the game when Emmanuel Clottey pulled a goal back for the Wonder Boys in the 24th minute.

Then six minutes afterwards, Michael Annan tied the game when he scored in the 30th minute.

However the home side proved too strong and with two minutes of added time before recess, Noel Nyansugbor grabbed the match winner in the 47th minute.

In Ho, Real Sportive gave Power FC nothing to cheer about as they handed the relegated side who were playing at home 2-0 defeat.

The defeat was the 17th in 28 games for the club that joined the elite division in 1999.

Real Sportive, who are now placed sixth on the table had to wait until the second half to rile switch off the mode for their opponents through Hamza Abdulai in the 55th minute.

Then with three minutes to go, the away team capped a good day with the second goal scored by Gafaru Mohammed in the 87th minute.

At the Carl Riendorff Park, Liberty Professionals and King Faisal sold out a 1-1 drawn game on match-day-28.

King Faisal who are seeking to avoid the drop took a 5th minute lead through Sumaila Alhassan after starting off a bright note.

But 20 minutes later, Tuaha Khamis drew level for Liberty Professionals when his drive beat goalkeeper Osei Boateng in post for Faisal.

For King Faisal, a valuable point picked from away but yet still things don’t look good as the league winds down with two matches remaining.
