The 2026 edition of the KGL Foundation U-17 Inter-Regional Colts Championship has been officially launched at a brief ceremony held at the KGL House, Labone, on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The launch brought together officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) led by President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, representatives of the KGL Foundation, and stakeholders of juvenile football.
Also present were Executive Council Members Nana Sarfo Oduro, Alhaji Abu Hassan Rhyzo, Fred Acheampong, Dr. Gifty Oware-Mensah, Kingsley Osei Bonsu, Gideon Fosu and Eugene Nobel Noel.
Four Regional Football Association Chairmen were also in attendance, namely Alhaji Salifu Zida (Upper East), Dr. Charles Osei Anto, Osei Tutu Agyemang (Ashanti), and Simon Ehomah (Western).
The Championship, now in its 6th edition, will bring together the best U-17 talents selected from Regional Colts competitions across the football regions. The tournament is aimed at identifying and developing young talents for the national U-17 team, the Black Starlets, while providing a competitive platform for colts players.
Speaking at the launch, Director of the KGL Foundation, Mr. Christian Salamouni, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to youth development through sports, while GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku thanked the KGL Foundation for its continued investment in grassroots football.
As part of its support for the competition, the KGL Foundation presented 50 sets of training markers, 300 size 5 footballs, 640 jerseys (32 home and 32 away kits with shorts), 640 pairs of football socks, and 96 medals (32 gold, 32 silver and 32 bronze).
Other items included a trophy and medals for the overall winner, first runner-up and second runner-up, as well as individual awards for the Golden Glove, Goal King and Most Valuable Player.
The 2026 edition is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Prampram.
