Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi has been re-elected to the FIFA after defeating his Tanzanian opponent Leodegar Tenga in the elections held in Addis Ababa.

Mr. Nyantakyi secured 33 votes out of a total of 53 votes to beat Tenga who had 20 votes.

The GFA boss will now serve on the FIFA Council for a four year term (2017-2024), six months after he was first elected onto the football World body's decision making body.

Earlier in the day, CAF President Issa Hayatou ended his 29 year old reign at the helm of African football after he suffered a defeat in the football body’s presidential elections.

Mr. Ahmad will replace Hayatou as the president of CAF and on the FIFA governing council after securing 34 votes to beat Hayatou’s 20 votes.

Hayatou who has been in office since 1988 was hoping to be elected to serve an eighth term.
