Central Region forward Desmond Korlettey emerged as one of the biggest stars of the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship after being deservedly crowned the Most Valuable Player of the competition following its conclusion on Friday.
The talented Kenpong Academy forward produced a series of outstanding performances throughout the 11-day championship, playing a significant role in Central Region's impressive campaign as they finished with the bronze medal in the prestigious Second Division competition.
Korlettey's individual statistics underlined his immense influence during the tournament. The prolific forward scored six goals in five matches, provided an assist and earned an impressive four Man of the Match awards, establishing himself as one of the standout performers of the championship.
His combination of goalscoring ability, consistency and match-winning influence made him a deserving recipient of the tournament's ultimate individual honour.
While Central Region narrowly missed out on a place in the final, their campaign was further recognised when they were adjudged the Fair Play Team of the Championship.
The awards ceremony also celebrated several other outstanding performers who made significant contributions during the tournament.
Ashanti Region's Raphael Amankwah was named Best Coach of the Tournament after guiding his side to the championship title. His leadership and tactical direction proved instrumental as Ashanti Region enjoyed an impressive campaign before defeating defending champions Eastern Region 4-3 in a dramatic final to lift the trophy.
Ashanti's Kelvin Osei Owusu was also recognised for his outstanding performances between the posts, earning the Goalkeeper of the Championship award after an impressive tournament.
Greater Accra Region's Dennis Adjei emerged as the competition's top scorer after an extraordinary goalscoring display. Adjei found the back of the net six times in just three matches, finishing the championship as its leading marksman.
However, the ultimate individual honour belonged to Korlettey, whose remarkable consistency and all-round contribution made him the defining player of the 2026 edition.
The MTN Elite U-19 Championship once again provided an important platform for some of Ghana's most promising young footballers to showcase their talents in a highly competitive environment.
