Michael Essien feels Chelsea's upturn in form is crucial for the season's title run-in after the Blues beat Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday.

Second half goals from the Brazilian pair of David Luiz and Ramires helped move Chelsea to within four points of second-placed Arsenal and nine points of leaders Man Utd, over whom they have a game in hand, and Essien feels they need to fight for every point.

"It was a very important victory. It was a difficult game but we gave it everything to get three points. It was a tight game but we always go out and do our best," Essien said.

"As far as the title is concerned, we have to keep believing and we will do our best to fight for every point."
