Laryea Kingston is hopeful Ghana complete the first phase qualifying campaign for the 2010 African Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers as the top team in Group 5.

The Black Stars sit at the stop of the standings in the African zone Group 5 on 9 points but with a better goal advantage than Libya.

When the qualifiers resume in September, Ghana would line up against Libya away in Tripoli before rounding up the first phase of the qualifying campaign later in October with a home fixture against Lesotho.

Despite sitting at the top of the standings, the strong challenge posed by the North African side is a source of concern for the Ghana midfielder who is demanding that the Black Stars win their remaining games.

And Kingston says they (his team-mates) are counting down the minutes until they finish the group as the top team before been entered into the draw for the last round of qualifiers. “We must seek to win the rest of the two games and top the group. The World Cup is the main target and we would strive to get through,” Laryea Kingston told www.ghanafa.org.

Having missed out of the World Cup through suspension, Laryea Kingston is determined to see Ghana land a qualification place at the 2010 World Cup tournament to be staged in Africa for the first time.

And he desires to be part of that dream as Ghana attempts to make a second successive appearance at the tournament.

“Securing a place at the World Cup is a big task and we are driven by our qualification the last time. We want to reach the Word Cup finals again.”

“Every player wants to play at the World Cup and we would play to win every game in the remaining matches,” Kingston added.
