The Women’s Premier League resumes this weekend after going on a one-week break. We expect fireworks across the League centres in both Zones – Northern and Southern. In the Northern Zone, there are some sumptuous fixtures to look ahead to on match day 5. Here is a quick Preview of matches in the Northern Zone.

Fabulous Ladies v Northern Ladies

The performance of Fabulous Ladies keeps dwindling week in, week out due to the tall list of players in the treatment room. The club lies bottom of the League table after four matches and are in dire need of points to lift themselves from their current position. Before the break, they succumbed to a humiliating 3-0 defeat to city rivals Ashtown Ladies on match day 4. This weekend, they will host Northern Ladies at WESCO Park. Northern Ladies are unbeaten in their last three games including two draws against Prisons Ladies and Pearl Pia Ladies, a playing span that depicts the ineffectiveness of the team per their own standards. The last outing between the two ended 1-1 with Agnes Aduako and Fredericka Torkudzor netting the goals for sides respectively.

Prisons Ladies v Ampem Darkoa Ladies

The Bono derby is set to be a fascinating one, with Ampem Darkoa looking to tighten their grip at the top of the table. Prisons Ladies will want to establish absolute dominance as always. This game is considered by many to be one of the most famous and fiercest derbies in the Women’s League as both teams are based in the Brong Ahafo Region. Matches between these two sides have always been crunchy as its mostly characterized by emotions, tradition and rivalry. Last season, Prisons Ladies managed to steal a 2-1 victory with Rita Okyere and Abigail Tutuwaa netting a goal each. Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah fetched the consolation for Ampem Darkoa Ladies. Prisons Ladies are considered as title contenders but they always flatter to deceive with inconsistent outputs. They lost at home to Supreme Ladies and drew with Northern Ladies in their two home games, throwing this weekend’s contest wide open.

Supreme Ladies vs Kumasi Sports Academy

Supreme Ladies will battle Kumasi Sports Academy in the Ashanti derby on Saturday at the Okese Park. The host have won two matches, scored 5 goals in their first four games and are on a two-game losing streak. The return of striker Sandra Owusu Ansah has yet to reflected positively on recent results of the team, a worry to Coach Joyce Boatey Agyei. That notwithstanding the team lies 4th in the league log with 6 points. Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies on the other hand are far from convincing. They have won one and drawn one, placing them 7th in the league log with 4 points. Kumasi Sports Academy have always had the upper hand in this fixture with the last outing ending in their favor. Joyce Larbi’s brace and a goal from Erica Ackon game the visitors the needed victory with Florence Adutwumwaa pulling one back for the host in a 2-1 thriller.

Pearl Pia Ladies vs Ashtown Ladies

Pearl Pia have been unimpressive this term winning just once and drawing with with Regional rivals Northern Ladies in their first four matches. This weekend, they welcome an old foe, Ashtown Ladies to the Utrecht Park in Tamale.  Ashtown Ladies finished match day 4 with a wet sail against arch rivals Fabulous Ladies to stage a flattering 3-0 final score line and will have the needed confidence storming the North. The silver lining is that their new look attack is coming into form with Fidous Yakubu and Ella Oheneba Afriyie both producing meaningful contributions upfront. A similar fixture last season saw the visitors snatching the 3 points from the host. Comfort Baah Nuako’s 75th minute strike secured all point for Ashtown Ladies. With just a point separating both sides in the league log, Ashtown might be going in for a repeat as Pearl Pia Ladies fight for redemption.
