The GFA Executive Committee has approved the Match Review Panel’s recommendation to suspend Referee Ernest Baafi for six (6) matches with effect from Match day sixteen (16).

After watching a video clip of the Ghana Premier League Match day 12 game between Dreams FC and Medeama SC, the Match review Panel observed that Referee Ernest Baafi denied Medeama SC a penalty in the 41st minute if the game when a defender of Dreams FC tripped an attacker of Medeama in the penalty area of Dreams FC.

Referee Baafi also failed to take disciplinary action against the reserve goalkeeper of Medeama after he left his bench and rushed threatening to challenge him (Referee Baafi) on the field of play.

Referee Baafi at the panel hearing argued that, the tripping was an ‘unfortunate’ incident and he did not see it as a foul. He however agreed with the panel that he should have taken disciplinary action against the reserve goalkeeper by at least giving him a caution.

In another decision, the Executive Committee has approved the Match Review Panel’s recommendation in the match between Inter Allies and Ashantigold.

The Match Review Panel was not able to establish whether the Ashantigold attacker was actually impeded or not, as a result of the poor quality of the video clip. It therefore decided to give the Referee the benefit of the doubt .

No sanction is placed on Referee Desmond Abbey.
