President preaches victory

Players and backroom staff members of the Black Stars listened dutiful as Ghana’s President J.A Kufour delivered his speech to the team on Tuesday evening from his base in Rome.

The President, who is in Rome for the annual World Food Program meeting held a video conference with the entire team and stressed the importance of a Ghana victory at the on-going African Cup of Nations as he charges the Black Stars to secure a final berth.

"I know you are capable of overcoming every challenge in the competition and I want you to beat Cameroon soundly as you did to Nigeria."

"Ghanaians are demanding the Cup so I urge you to fire from all cylinders to realize that dream, and I know you can do it."

Ghana meets Cameroon in the semi-final of the tournament tomorrow at the Ohene Djan Stadium with a victory inching them closer to a record-equalling fifth Nations Cup title.

However the President, who has been present at the stadium for two matches, would this time his official schedule means that he would be unavailable.

"Although I am not with you physically, I am with you in spirit and expecting a high profile performance to ensure that you make it the final and lift the trophy to crown your efforts.”

The President took turns to talk to every member of the squad as the team thanked him for his continuous support.

Responding, Michael Essien said the team was ready to go the extra mile and deliver victory.

"We thank you very much for having us in mind, we promise to make you and the entire nation proud by winning our next two games," Essien told President Kufuor.
