Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Young Apostles in their outstanding Week 6  Premier League fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The result brings an end to the Porcupine Warriors’ two-game winless run in the 2025/26 campaign.

Kotoko dominated the first half, dictating play and creating several promising chances, but poor finishing and resolute defending from the visitors kept the scoreline goalless at the break.

Six minutes after the restart, midfielder Hubert Gyau finally broke the deadlock with a superb strike to put the hosts ahead. However, Kotoko’s advantage was short-lived. Young Apostles responded just three minutes later through Richmond Opoku, who rose highest to head home a well-constructed team move.

With the score level, the match opened up, producing end-to-end action as Kotoko pushed relentlessly for all three points. Their perseverance paid off deep into stoppage time when captain Samba O’Neil stepped up to convert a penalty, securing a crucial victory for the Reds.

The win lifts Kotoko to fifth place with 19 points, just two points off the top of the table, and with one outstanding match still to play.
