Black Starlets head coach Kassim Ocansey says his players are in a positive frame of mind ahead of their opening game against Togo at the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Ouagadougou.
Ghana will face Togo on Saturday, October 10, at the August 4 Sports Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00 GMT, as they begin their campaign in the regional competition.
Coach Ocansey believes the team’s preparations, coupled with their recent international exposure, have boosted the confidence of the players ahead of the crucial encounter.
“We’ve had good preparations, and the trip to Morocco for the two friendlies we played with them has boosted the confidence of the players. There is a positive mood in camp, and I’m confident that the boys will make themselves and Ghana proud against Togo on Saturday,” he said.
The Black Starlets held training sessions in Ouagadougou following their arrival in the Burkinabe capital, using the sessions to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the tournament. The technical team will be hoping the players carry their confidence and readiness into Saturday’s opening fixture.
Ghana head into the competition with valuable experience from last year’s WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire, where they finished as runners-up. Their impressive performance earned them qualification for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Black Starlets will be determined to translate their preparations into a positive result against Togo and make a strong start to their campaign.
