Libya has taken over from Ghana as leaders of World Cup qualifying group 5 after a 4-0 win over Lesotho in Tripoli.

The North Africans are now on nine points, three more than Ghana but the Black Stars can regain leadership of the group on goal difference with a 1-0 win over Gabon on Sunday in Accra.

Ben Osama Salen, Omar Dawood, Younes Al Shibani and Hesham Shaban scored to give Libya not just all three points but boosted their goal difference which could play a major role in determining the winners of the group.

The Libyans have now scored five times and conceded three in four games while Ghana has scored six goals and let in four in three games.

A solitary goal win against Gabon will give the Black Stars a superior goal difference and top spot in the group, but anything less than that and the Libyans will have the advantage going into September’s meeting between the two sides in Tripoli.
