
Tafo Metro have emerged winners of the 2024 Ashanti Regional Inter-District KGL U17 Colts Football Festival after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Kwabre District in the final played at the Alignment Astroturf in Sofoline. The competition, which brought together some of the best young footballing talents in the region, ended on a thrilling note as Tafo Metro lifted the coveted trophy.
Tafo secured their place in the final with an emphatic 3-0 win over Asante Akim District in the semi-final, showcasing both attacking firepower and defensive discipline. Kwabre District also booked their ticket to the final in style, overcoming Ejura Sekyeredumase District with a commanding 3-1 win in the other semi-final fixture.
The final match between Tafo and Kwabre was a fiercely contested battle, with both teams showing tactical maturity and a hunger to win. Despite numerous chances on both sides, the game ended 0-0 in regulation time, sending the tie into a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Tafo Metro displayed composure and precision, converting all three of their kicks while Kwabre failed to find the back of the net. The 3-0 shootout result sealed the championship for Tafo and sparked jubilant celebrations among players, officials, and supporters.
As part of the talent development agenda tied to the festival, a technical committee selected 40 outstanding players from the various districts who impressed during the tournament. These players will undergo further assessment as the pool is narrowed down to 20, who will form the Ashanti Regional U17 team for the upcoming KGL Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship.
The tournament not only highlighted the depth of youth football talent in the Ashanti Region but also reinforced the importance of grassroots development in building the future of Ghana football.
