Hearts of Oak increased the pressure on champions and leaders Asante Kotoko after defeating AshantiGold 2-1 on Wednesday.

A goal in either half by Gerald Odupong and Paul Acquah handed the Phobians a comfortable lead at the Accra Stadium before Emmanuel Osei pulled a goal back for the Miners from the spot with six minutes remaining.

The win keeps Mohammed Polo's Phobians in second place and within eight points of Kotoko, who lost at home with eight more games to go in the First Capital Plus Premier League.

With a game against Kotoko still to come in the penultimate fixture of the season, Hearts of Oak will now fancy their chances of winning the title as they have the champions in sight.

At the Tema Stadium, Inter Allies made it a double over Berekum Chelsea in four days as the Tema side continue with their survival hopes.

After eliminating Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday, Inter Allies managed a 3-2 victory over the former Premier League champions.

Sadat Karim scored the home side's first goal before Talla Ndiaye followed up with a brace. Bennent Ofori and Benjamin Boateng got the goals for Chelsea.

In Bekwai, New Edubiase were 1-0 winners over Liberty Professionals courtesy a 22nd minute goal by Bismark Idan.
