The Football Association has received a significant boost following FIFA’s agreement to construct two brand-new, world-class Astro turf pitches at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The landmark commitment was secured following a high-level meeting between Football Association President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, and the FIFA Development Committee in Rabat, Morocco, marking a major milestone in the ambitious drive to transform the technical centre into a world-class football development hub.
Under the agreement, FIFA will oversee the construction of two world-class artificial turf pitches designed to meet the highest standards of the global governing body. One of the pitches will be equipped with a high-level floodlighting system, allowing football activities to continue into the night, while the second will be constructed without floodlights.
The development process currently underway at the Ghanaman Centre is gathering remarkable momentum. With two new Astro turf pitches now approved, the centre is poised to witness a historic expansion of its football infrastructure.
Upon completion, the facility will boast four Astro turf pitches, complemented by two new natural grass pitches that are also nearing completion.
FIFA to take full control of the project
President Simeon-Okraku reached an agreement with FIFA for the world governing body to take full responsibility for the entire development process.
FIFA will oversee every stage of the project, from the initial design and tendering process through to construction and final handover to the Ghana Football Association.
This comprehensive approach is expected to ensure that the new facilities are delivered to the required FIFA standards, with quality, technical excellence and long-term sustainability at the heart of the process.
The construction of these two new facilities represents an investment in the dreams of young footballers, the future of Ghanaian football and the development of a stronger, more competitive football ecosystem.
The floodlit pitch, in particular, will introduce greater flexibility to the centre’s operations, creating opportunities for night training sessions and matches while maximising the use of the facility.
