Ghana, lost its second of the two games played so far at the FIFA Womens World Cup.

The defeat all but ends Ghana's hopes of qualifying with just one game left as the Black Queens fail to get past the knockout round for their third consecutive World Cup appearance after going down 4-0 to their opponents on Saturday.

Canada started brightly as they created a couple of opportunities in the first two minutes while Ghana's Adjoa Bayor drilled a free kick wide soon after.

Kate Thorlakson headed a cross from Christine Sinclair over the bar in the 13th minute before goalkeeper Erin McLeod plucked the ball from the feet of an on-rushing Ghana player.

However, it was Canada who grabbed the early goal it desired through Sinclair 16 minutes into the match.

Kara Lang broke down the wing before whipping a perfect cross to the head of Sinclair and the Canucks skipper sent a looping header over goalkeeper Memunatu Sulemana and into the back of the net.

Ghana was enjoying plenty of possession but it failed to cause Canada too many problems as the first half wore on.

Just before the break Memuna Darku's shot from distance landed on the roof of the net before Canada escaped a scare when Ghana slammed a shot against the underside of the crossbar in the last action of the half.

A superb reflex save seconds into the second half from Sulemana denied Jodi-Ann Robinson's point-blank header but Canada finally added to its lead in the 55th minute.

Sinclair sent a header off a corner kick goalwards that the defense cleared, but only as far as Sophie Schmidt, who dove to head the ball into the net.

And just seven minutes later Canada were 3-0 up when Lang pushed the ball past the despairing hands of Sulemana before pulling it back for Sinclair, who was left with the simple task of firing into the empty net.

Sinclair shot into the hands of the Ghana goalie soon after as the Vancouver Whitecaps forward looked to complete her hat trick. But with 13 minutes remaining Canada rounded off the victory with a fourth goal when Martina Franko headed home a corner from Kristina Kiss.
