Ghana moves to the top of the table in Group D after coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Australia at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.

The draw sees the Black Stars go on four points ahead of Germany and Serbia, who both share three points, with the Socceroos on a point.

A final group clash against Germany would prove crucial with everything to play for in the group as all four sides battle for a place in the second round.

Asamoah Gyan restored parity from a spot kick in the 25 minute, sending Aussie goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer the wrong way after a 10-man Australian side had taken an 11th minute lead through Brett Holman.

It was Gyan's second goal scored from a penalty at the World Cup.

The Socceroos had key man, Harry Kewell sent off in the 24th minute, using the arm to block a goal bound effort by debutant, Jonathan Mensah. Mensah had connected to a cross into the box by Andre Ayew.

Both sides were keen to grab all three points in the tight fixture after the group was thrown wide open following Serbia's 1-0 victory against Germany on Friday.

It was a game which Ghana could have finished as winners but near misses by Prince Tagoe, Andre Ayew, Mensah, Asamoah Gyan and Kevin-Prince Boateng saw the Black Stars share the spoils with the Socceroos.

However, goalkeeper Kingson pulled off great saves to prevent Australia jumping into the lead once again as 34, 812 supporters filled the stadium.

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac used all his substitutes, bringing on Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Sulley Muntari and Matthew Amoah for Prince Tagoe, Kwadwo Asamoah and Kevin-Prince Boateng.
