Brong Ahafo defender Kingsley Addai and Upper East Region captain Rashid Yakubu emerged as the standout performers in Group B, earning Most Valuable Player (MVP) honours after inspiring their respective teams to impressive victories in the ongoing MTN Elite U-19 Championship.

Addai delivered a commanding performance at the heart of the Brong Ahafo defence as his side opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Central Region at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

The young defender’s assured display helped Brong Ahafo keep a clean sheet as Seidu Nayilu opened the scoring early before substitute Osafo Antwi added the second goal to secure a comfortable victory.

While the attacking duo provided the goals, Addai’s defensive composure and consistency earned him individual recognition as he was named MVP of the encounter.

In the other Group B fixture, Upper East captain Rashid Yakubu also produced a standout display to guide his side to an emphatic 4-2 victory over Northern Region in a thrilling six-goal contest.

Yakubu combined leadership with attacking contribution, scoring one of Upper East’s goals while playing a significant role in a performance that earned him the MVP award. His influence was particularly significant as Upper East recovered from an early setback to secure all three points.

The impressive opening-day results have given both Brong Ahafo and Upper East considerable momentum ahead of their second Group B matches on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Their strong starts will also raise expectations as they seek to build on their victories and strengthen their positions in the group.

The competition provides an important platform for the players to develop their technical and tactical abilities, gain valuable competitive experience and showcase their potential to scouts, professional clubs and national-team selectors.

Proudly sponsored by MTN Ghana, the MTN Elite U-19 Championship is a key pillar of the Ghana Football Association’s “Power to the Youth” initiative, which seeks to establish a structured pathway for talented young players to progress from grassroots football to the professional game and Ghana’s national teams.
