Abdulai Bashit of the Upper West Region and Ashanti Region’s Abdul Rahaman Bauh emerged as the first standout performers of the ongoing MTN Elite U-19 Championship, earning Most Valuable Player (MVP) honours in their respective opening matches at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.
Basit delivered a stunning individual performance for Upper West Region, scoring all three goals in his side’s thrilling 3-2 victory over defending champions Eastern Region in Group A.
The young forward’s hat-trick proved decisive in a closely contested encounter, underlining his finishing ability and composure in front of goal while giving Upper West an impressive start to their campaign. His outstanding display earned him the MVP award and immediately placed him among the early players to watch in the competition.
In the other Group A opening fixture, Abdul Rahaman Bauh also caught the eye with a strong performance for Ashanti Region against Volta Region. After the two sides battled to a 2-2 draw in regulation time, Ashanti held their nerve to secure a 5-4 victory on penalties, with Bauh contributing to his team’s efforts before being named MVP.
The MTN Elite U-19 Championship provides a competitive platform for young talents to sharpen their technical and tactical abilities, gain valuable match experience and showcase their potential to scouts, professional clubs and national-team selectors.
Proudly sponsored by MTN Ghana, the championship forms an important pillar of the Ghana Football Association’s “Power to the Youth” initiative, which seeks to create a structured pathway for talented young footballers to progress from grassroots football into the professional game and, ultimately, Ghana’s national teams.
