Family of E.T Mensah call on Executive Council: former Sports Minister goes home December 5

The Kley Abodo family of the late Enoch Teye Mensah, a former Youth and Sports Minister has called on the Executive Council in Accra. The meeting was to inform the Council about the funeral arrangement for the late Youth and Sports Minister.

The family had Joseph Ade Coker, former Vice Chairman of the Ghana Football Association and CEO of Accra Great Olympics, Rev. Robert Allotey Pappoe, Simon Kweku Tetteh, Martha Mensah, Abass Osabutey, Nicholas Mensah and Rev. Benjamin Tettey Mensah.

The Executive Council was represented by President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and Vice President Mark Addo. Others included Dr. Ranford Abbey, Nana Sarfo Oduro, Kingsley Osei Bonsu, Dr. Mrs. Gifty Oware-Mensah, Frederick Acheampong, Eugene Nobel and Gideon Fosu.

‘’There is a reason why he (E.T Mensah) remains the longest serving Sports Minister because he knew the right course. We cannot ignore the roles that he played in the development of Football and Sports in Ghana, clearly it’s our responsibility to give him the respect that he is due’’ President Simeon-Okraku told the meeting.

‘’I remember my last visit to him in Prampram. He opened his doors to me without thinking twice. I was in his house to speak about the legacy he left for us in Pramapram – the place we call Ghanaman Centre of Excellence’’.

‘’He was the man who ensured that football took the first step to invest on that land so the GFA will forever be grateful to our icon’’.

‘’We will fully participate in the processes leading to the burial and final funeral rites of our departed father. E.T never dies. E.T will be forever respected by the football community and my good self’’.

‘’I know what he stood for and I know what his soul would love to see done for him. I worked with him at the Sports Ministry and I know who he was. We will play our part to see him go home peacefully’’.

‘’E.T Mensah has left a lasting impression and needs to be honoured. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the family in this moment and promise to join the family to find our father a peaceful journey back to his maker’’ he added.

The former Youth and Sports Minister, who was very instrumental in procuring the Ghana Football Association Technical Centre at Prampram, died aged 77 in South Africa, after battling ill health.

Enoch Teye Mensah was also a Minister for Education and a Member of Parliament for the people of Ningo Prampram from January 1997 until January 2017.

He was also a former Minister for Employment and Social Welfare, Water Resources, Works and Housing. He was popularly referred to as E.T Mensah and was married with seven children.

The final funeral rites of the late Member of Parliament will take place on December 5, 2023 at the State House in Accra. There shall be a wake keeping at his Prampram residence on December 4 – with the Thanksgiving service set for the Methodist Church at Prampram on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
