The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected two training pitches put forward by the Local Organising Committee for use by teams at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF said the training pitches at the Accra Technical Training Centre and the Saint John’s Grammer School were not up to standard for the tournament.
But Frank Boahene, the Managing Director of Green Grass Technology, who laid the pitches, said he was baffled by CAF’s decision.
“I don’t know what criteria they used to reject the training pitches but as far as we are concerned they are fine and up to standard,” he said.
The quality of pitches for the Nations Cup was issues of major concern for the CAF team during the inspection of facilities for the tournament.
Ghanaian authorities were adamant the pitches will be fine but CAF’s rejection of the two pitches suggest otherwise.
