The Elite U-15 Boys Colts Championship kicked off in thrilling fashion as Match Day 1 served up exciting goals, penalty shootouts, and intense battles across both groups. Young talents from the regions and GFA academies showcased their skills at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

In Group A, the GFA Elite Academy in Kumasi stamped their authority with a confident 2-0 win over Northern Region with goals from Osei Boakye Vincent and Aborah Jonathan while Greater Accra narrowly edged Western Region with a 1-0 victory in a closely fought contest. Robert Antwi scored the only goal of the game. The clash between Volta Region and Upper East ended in a pulsating 2-2 draw, but it was Upper East who prevailed 4-3 on penalties to grab the bonus point. Anani Bright and Bless Akoto gave the Volta Region side a 2-0 lead but the Upper East Region fought back through Ignatus Awusagayong and Arafat Salifu Zisa.

Group B also delivered end-to-end action. Ashanti Region came from behind in a lively encounter to defeat Upper West 4-2, showing attacking prowess and resilience.

Upper West Region took the lead in the early minutes of the game through Saeed Mohammed before the Ashanti Region pulled the equalizer through Owusu Nathaniel. The Upper West Region restored their lead through Kangpeng Abdulai but Derrick Antwi restored parity again. Abdul Aziz Issah and Benjamin Owusu Ansah scored a goal each to make it 4-2 for the Ashanti Region.

The tie between GFA Elite Academy Bolga and Eastern Region ended goalless, but Eastern Region triumphed 4-3 on penalties, sealing an important opening-day advantage. In the final fixture, Brong Ahafo Region proved too strong for Central Region, securing a comfortable 2-0 win. Issaka Amadu and Prince Oppong were the scorers for the Brong Ahafo Region.

The opening round set the tone for what promises to be a highly competitive championship, with the young stars leaving no doubt about their hunger to impress scouts and coaches.

The tournament continues with Match Day 2 fixtures on Tuesday, as teams fight to strengthen their chances of progressing to the knockout stage of Ghana’s premier youth football development platform.
