Black Stars defender Harrison Afful joins MLS side Columbus Crew

Black Stars defender Harrison Afful has completed a move from Tunisian side Esperance to Major League Soccer(MLS) side Columbus Crew.

The former Asante Kotoko and Feyenoord Academy full back ends his 6-year stay at Esperance de Tunis where he made 173 appearances, scoring 16 goals with 25 assists.

Columbus Crew announced the deal on their official website on Thursday. Speaking on the deal, head coach of Columbus Crew, Gregg Berhalter said, “Harrison is an experienced, versatile defender whose playing style will fit well into our system.”

“We're happy to welcome Harrison to Columbus and we feel that he is going to be a great addition to our defensive corps.” Berhalter added.

In an interview with the official website of Columbus Crew, Harrison Afful expressed his readiness.

He said, “I just hope I would adapt to the system of the team even though it is a big challenge.”

The player will officially be added to the Columbus Crew roster once his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 visa are cleared.
