Prempeh Elite Academy rounded off an impressive group-stage campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over the Upper East Region on Thursday, October 8, to finish top of Group A at the 2026 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship.
Yusif Sabits, who was later named the Most Valuable Player, scored the decisive goal in the final Group A fixture at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, sealing another positive result for Prempeh Elite Academy.
Northern Region shock Greater Accra
Northern Region produced one of the day’s biggest results, edging Greater Accra Region 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter.
Adjei Kobby Emmanuel Obene scored the only goal of the match in the 72nd minute to secure a valuable victory for Northern Region, while Halifa Iddrisu was named the game’s MVP.
Brong Ahafo edge Western Region on penalties
Brong Ahafo Region secured their place in the next stage after overcoming Western Region 5-3 on penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time.
The tightly fought contest could not be settled during normal play, with Brong Ahafo keeping their composure from the spot to claim victory. Western Region’s Bismark Yalley was adjudged MVP for his impressive performance.
Elite BIG Boss triumph but miss out on semifinals
Elite BIG Boss also prevailed on penalties, defeating Eastern Region 5-3 after another pulsating 0-0 draw.
Despite their victory, however, the result was not enough to earn Elite BIG Boss a place in the last four.
Amoah Marco Felix of Eastern Region was named MVP following his outstanding display.
Ashanti Region end campaign on a high
Defending champions Ashanti Region finally recorded their first victory of the tournament, edging Upper West Region 3-2 in a thrilling five-goal encounter at the GFA Technical Centre.
Upper West made a flying start, with Osman Hamdan putting his side ahead as early as the second minute. Atieso Thompson restored parity for Ashanti in the 16th minute, but Hamdan struck again just two minutes later to put Upper West back in front.
Ashanti responded once more, with Thomas Frimpong drawing the defending champions level in the 41st minute before MVP Mensah Junior Jeffrey completed the comeback with the winning goal in the 67th minute.
The victory allowed Ashanti Region to bow out on a positive note despite a difficult title defence.
Volta complete comeback against Central Region
Volta Region concluded Thursday’s Matchday 5 action with a 2-1 comeback victory over Central Region, bringing the group stage to a close.
Central Region took the lead through Issaka Mahmoud in the 15th minute, but Volta responded quickly. Nyande Nafiu Iddrisu equalised in the 22nd minute before Agbali John completed the comeback six minutes later with the decisive goal.
With the group stage now complete, attention turns to the semifinals, which will be played on Friday, October 9, 2026, as the U17 Colts Championship enters its decisive stage.
