Black Queens suffer opening setback

Ghana suffered an opening defeat in the 2014 Africa Women's Championship as a late Algerian goal denied the Black Queens a share of the spoils.

The Black Queens will feel how done by after having the better chances in the Group B at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek on Sunday.

Poor misses denied Ghana a goal as an 82nd minute goal by substitute Horiya Affak made the difference after she found space at the far post to head in a cross.

The Black Queens who have failed to come out of their group in 2008 and 2010 before failing to qualify for the 2012 tournament will be need to up their performance after the setback.

Ghana's focus will now be fixed on their next game on Wednesday against South Africa, who were defeated 1-0 by Cameroon in the other group match.

The top three nations from Championship will represent Africa at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.
