Appiah's camp break injury news to FA

Representatives of Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah have informed the Ghana Football Association about the player’s injury situation which has forced him out of the African Cup of Nations.

Appiah, has been ruled out of the tournament after further tests on his knee this week in Italy confirmed that he will not be fit to lead Ghana.

Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Pappoe says the sport body has received informal notification from representatives of the player about the situation.

However, the FA is still awaiting a formal report from the player’s medics.

Appiah is expected to be out of action for two months because of complications surrounding his knee injury.

"The news has come as a bitter blow to Stephen," a statement on the player's website said.

"[He] has been working hard in the last week or so to prove he is fine and fit.

"Stephen [would] like to say a big thank you to all his fans and well wishers who have sent him get well soon messages in the last few weeks.

"He is very grateful for your support."

Stephen Appiah has however shown appreciation to the Ghana Football Association for its support.

The Black Stars captain was not put on any definite timeline by the FA to prove his fitness.
