We are ready for WC opener against Uruguay - Coach Adotey

Ghana’s 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup campaign begins on Tuesday November 13 when the Black Maidens take on hosts Uruguay in their Group A match at the Estadio Churrua in Montevideo.

The junior female national team are making their sixth appearance at the U17 Women’s World Cup with Ghana emerging as bronze medalists in the 2012 edition of the competition.

Coach Evans Adotey’s side will be up against Las Celestes who lost 5-0 to Ghana when the two sides met for the first time in 2012.

Coach Adotey has said that the ambition of his team is to make it past the group stage and advance to the final in the knock out stages.

“Our wish is to surpass that the 2012’s achievements, advance from the quarterfinals stage and hopefully make it to the final. As a coach and together with the players this is our target”, he said.

On the team’s preparations the 58 year old technical handler said that, “We have prepared very well for this competition from our days in Prampram all the way to Brazil for the pre tournament tour and now in Uruguay, we have trained and prepared for every situation that may come up”.

“We have acclimatized to the weather conditions and the girls well prepared for the competition”.

He said though the Uruguayans will have their supporters behind them, his technical team have psyched the Black Maidens to also use the fans at the stadium as a motivation excel and make themselves proud.

“They will have their entire nation behind them. Their president will be there to support them but we have psyched the girls to be mentally strong on the pitch”, coach Adotey reiterated ahead of Tuesday’s match.

He called on Ghanaians back home to support the Black Maidens in today’s opening match and subsequent matches.

“Am humbly urging Ghanaians to support the team and we assure them that the team will do its best to make the nation proud”, the former Medeama Head coach concluded. 

Kick off time for Ghana’s match against Uruguay is 7pm local time and 10pm GMT.
