Reds lift Top-4 title

Kumasi Asante Kotoko produced the much-needed draw to clinch the Top-4 title after sharing the spoils with Berekum Arsenals in a 1-1 drawn fixture at the Coronation Park.

The Porcupine Warriors have won the 1.4 billion cedi competition even though they have a game to go.

Kwabena Yaro put Kotoko in front after two minutes but Samuel Okyere cancelled out that lead from a spot kick in the 18th minute.

Kotoko were denied the lead again after the referee disallowed another strike by Kwabena Yaro in the first half.

The result thus see Asante Kotoko win the lucrative off-season competition for the second time.

In another match-day-5 battle, Heart of Lions did the double over Accra Hearts of Oak in the Top-4 competition when they denied the Phobians victory after five matches with a 2-1 victory at the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium.

Lions pipped Hearts of Oak 1-0 in the first leg of the competition at the same venue.

And on Sunday, Lions after having the better parts of possession jumped into the lead in the 37th minute through outside right Addoquaye Addo when he connected a pass from Osei Banahene.

Six minutes later, Addoquaye Addo turned provider when he rounded up a host of Hearts of Oak defenders before sliding the ball to Samuel Ellis to score from close range.

Hearts made some changes in he second half and raised their game.

Five minutes into the half, substitute, Sherif Mohammed who had come on for Bernard Dong Bortey pulled one back for the Phobians.

The Phobians could not make numerical strength count after Lions had had Ofosu Appiah shown the red card in the 65th minute.

Despite playing with 10 men, Lions cleared their lines well and ensured that Hearts of Oak remain bottom of the table and winless after five games in the competition with just a game to go.

The Top-4 competition is played among the first four clubs of the premier league at the end of every soccer season.

Accra Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kpando Heart of Lions all past winners and Berekum Arsenals are competing for honours in the 1.4 billion cedi competition.
