Kumasi Asante Kotoko recorded their win of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League campaign defeating Legon Cities 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium Friday night.

Striker Osman Ibrahim scored the only goal of the game in the 10th minute to deepen the woes of Cities who are yet to record a win this season.

The win sees the Porcupine Warriors move up on the log on five points with two outstanding games to play while Cities maintain their two points from three games at the lower side of the log.

Asante Kotoko started the game on a fierce note and could have taken the lead as early as the first minute through Kwame Opoku but goalkeeper Fatau Dauda stood resolute to stop the point blank shot from going in.

In the 10th minute mark, Dauda was again called into action when he had to stop a powerful drive from Emmanuel Keyekeh from outside the box.

The threat from that strike was not dealt with by the defence of Legon Cities and it came haunting them seconds later when Patrick Asmah delivered a cross which found an unmarked Ibrahim to tap home.

The goal gingered the visitors who came in stronger and in search for the equaliser, however profligate display in front of goal by Raphael Ocloo denied Cities from scoring.

While Ocloo was being wasteful at the other side, Dauda was being called to save his side from further goals as he pulled two great saves from Opoku and Ibrahim midway through the first half.

Back from recess, Ocloo continued his wastefulness in front of goal feebly shooting at Kwame Baah in post for Kotoko with the latter at his mercy.

Coach Bashir Hayford brought on Asamoah Gyan but his inclusion did little to change the score line as the back line of the Reds made up of Habib Mohammed and Abdul Ganiyu held him in check for the rest of the game.

The heroism of Dauda was rewarded as he walked away with the NASCO man-of-the- match award.
