
The President of West Africa Football Union (WAFU) ‘Zone B’ will on Wednesday in Kumasi unveil plans of the city's hosting of the GOtv WAFU Cup next month.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, leader of the sub-regional governing body, will address a media briefing in the Ashanti Regional capital where the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the competition will be announced.
He will also unveil plans for a massive reward package for fans who attend the eight-nation tournament which takes place from 21-28 November.
Players who excel in the matches to be played during the tournament will also be massively rewarded and the prizes will be announced at the event to be held at Miklin Hotel at 12pm.
Nyantakyi, who is also the President of the Ghana Football Association, will announce the preparation plans to host all the countries that will be playing in the seven-day competition.
Other top officials of the GFA attending the event are Fred Crentsil, Alhaji Nurudeen Jawula, George Afriyie, Anthony Baffoe and Ibrahim Sannie.
The tournament which is meant only for home-based players will see the Black Stars drawn in Group A to face Sierra Leone, Benin and Burkina Faso.
Title holders Togo will play Niger, Senegal and Gabon in Group B.
The winners of each group will progress to the final while the second-placed team in each group will vie for third position.
Senegal, Sierra Leone and Gabon will take part in the tournament as guests.
The launching the GOtv Wafu Cup is the latest attempt to revive regional competition in West Africa after the tournament was last played in 2011.
This year’s GOtv WAFU Cup competition is aimed at giving training opportunity to teams preparing for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in South Africa in January 2014.
