The Confederation of African Football says the situation in Libya is still been monitored before making a decision to move the African U-20 Championship scheduled to kick off next month.

Political tensions in the Northern African nation is putting in doubt the start of the championship which is scheduled for March 18-April 1.

However, CAF President, Issa Hayatou says the Executive Committee will meet “very soon” on the matter before making a decision on moving the eight-nation championship.

“We still have to sit and talk about it. In the meantime we hope to see peace not only in Libya but in the whole continent,” CAF President Issa Hayatou said.

Though reports have identified some countries as possible host, Hayatou says no such decision has been taken.

“We will sit as the CAF executive and study the option and see what will be the state that will replace (Libya),” Hayatou said.

Ghana is the defending African champions after winning the title in Rwanda two years ago.

Four teams will qualify for the FIFA-organized U-20 World Cup in Colombia beginning in July.
