Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari can join his best friend Michael Essien as the only Ghanaian winners of the FA Cup as he steps out on Saturday in the final against Cardiff City.

The 23-year old is certain to play a part in the game at Wembley as Portsmouth seek their first triumph in the world’s most famous Cup competition since 1939.

Essien’s win in the FA Cup with Chelsea was the first time a Ghanaian had lifted the Cup but Muntari will be chasing history on a much bigger scale if Pompey triumphs.

Not only will he be part of what will be considered the most successful Pompey side since 1939 but the side will be the first club outside Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal to lift the trophy since 1995.

On a personal level, Muntari will be chasing his first trophy of significance.

"I have never won a trophy in my career and it would be nice to change that. I am a winner and I do not like losing so I want to go on to lift the FA Cup with Portsmouth.

"It is important for this club to win something and we now have the chance to go and do that. The only trophy I have won as a professional is a pre-season one and I think it is time I changed that. It would be perfect to pick up my first piece of silverware in my first season at Portsmouth."

Muntari can be sure of the backing of an entire nation with the game due to go out live on both terrestrial and satellite television across the country.
