Kotoko turn to continental challenge

Two days after completing the domestic league season, champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko turn their sights onto another challenge, this time the Confederations Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors have traveled to Tripoli for the first leg of their Confederations Cup final sixteen game against Al-Ittihad on Friday.

A 17-member playing body were on board, the dawn flight on Tuesday for Tripoli with defender, Harrison Afful expected to meet up with the rest of the squad from Holland, where he has been undergoing trials with Dutch side, Feyenoord.

The squad includes Eric Opoku who has come in for the injured Francis Akwaffo.

The league champions left without head coach, Bashir Hayford, who has been absent from the Kotoko bench in the last three weeks after the death of his wife.

In Hayford’s place for the game against the Libyan champions would be his assistant, Johnson Smith.

Asante Kotoko would be hoping for good result in Tripoli before the reverse fixture in Kumasi in a fortnight as they attempt to reach the League stage of the competition.
