Kotoko, Hearts draw in derbies

Asante Kotoko’s failing title defence continued at the Baba Yara Stadium where the Porcupine Warriors could only manage a 1-1 draw with ten-man Kessben FC in the Glo Premier League.

Despite being reduced ten men after defender defender Yahaya Iddrisu was sent off for using the on Alex Asamoah in the 20th minute, it was Kessben handled by former Kotoko coach Bashir Hayford who took the lead in the 31st minute through Anum Lanquaye in the derby game.

Kessben went into the break 1-0 up but a second half equaliser by Kojo Poku in the 65th minute for Kotoko handed them a share of the spoils as the defending champions slip to fifth on the standings.

But as Kotoko slipped down the table, leaders Hearts of Oak extended their lead at the top to 12 points despite drawing goalless in the Accra derby with Liberty Professionals who finished the game with ten men at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

Liberty's best chance of scoring against the leaders came in the 21st minute from a spot kick but captain Bawa Mumuni struck his shot against the crossbar.

King Faisal also surrendered second position after losing 0-1 to All Stars at the Wa Park.

Chelsea’s 1-0 win over relegation threatened AshantiGold at the Coronation Park has seen the Bechem side move second on the standings.
