Despite the disappointment of missing out of the finals of the African Cup of Nations, the challenge for the third-place playoff would be heavily contested.

Hosts, Ghana and Ivory Coast would both have to put aside their frustrations as they line up at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi for the third-place match which kicks off at 17:00GMT.

Ghana striker, Junior Agogo says the Black Stars would approach the game just like any other match.

“We have to be ready for every game. We are sad to have lost that semi-final game.

“The tournament is not over. We have to go for third. It’s not an underachievement. We have to prove to the fans that we want to win and we are ready to play,” Agogo said.

Before the start of the tournament, both teams were highly favoured to make it to the finals but that talk failed as they both stumbled in the semi-finals.

Ghana has had the better of exchanges in matches against the Ivorians at the Nations Cup winning four out of six games.

However matches between both nations comes with some rivalry dating back to the 1992 long penalty shootout which saw 24 kicks been taken in the finals that saw the Ivorians win the trophy.

The more recent one was the 2-0 win by Ghana in the 1996 group stages. However times have changed as both sides haven’t meet in the past 12 years.

Playing for third place is hardly a consolation but for Junior Agogo, it’s a match everyone had been dreaming off at the start of the tournament.

“This game is my final. Everyone wanted to see this game. We would play with our heart and all,” says the Ghana striker.
