
The World Football governing body, FIFA, held a minute of silence to honor Ghanaian football legend Wilberforce Mfum and Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, during the 75th FIFA Congress in Asunción, Paraguay, on May 15, 2025.
Wilberforce Mfum's Legacy:
- Born August 28, 1936
- Member of Ghana's 1963 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad, scoring crucial goals in the tournament and final
- Scored 20 goals in 26 appearances for Ghana
- Played for Asante Kotoko, Swedru All Blacks, and several teams in the United States of America, including Baltimore Bays and New York Cosmos
- Participated in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan
- Passed away on May 11, 2025, at 88 years old
Francis Yaw Frimpong (Nana Pooley)
- Staunch Asante Kotoko supporter and member of the team's Supporters' Communication Team
- Tragically lost his life on February 2, 2025, during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko SC at Nsoatre's Nana Kronmansah Park.
The minute of silence observed during the FIFA Congress honored their contributions and sacrifices to Ghanaian football. May their souls continue to Rest In Peace!
