Unlike the previous weekend when the Glo Premier League recorded a low count of goals - eight -, match-day-8 had 20 goals scored from eight centres with the Tamale Sports Stadium, the only venue that failed to produce a goal on an interesting weekend of match action.

Hearts of Oak secured a vital win ahead of next Sunday's crucial visit to Kumasi to square off with rivals, Asante Kotoko.

The Phobians who had struggled going into today's game at the Ohene Djan Stadium put in an assured display to condemn All Stars to a 3-0 defeat and climb to sixth on the table.

Two goals by Uriah Asante and Douglas Nkrumah under 19 minutes put the Phobians in the lead before second half substitute, Osei Pele continued his scoring run with the third after turning up for Hearts, a day after scoring for the national U-20 side at the same venue in the 2011 African Youth Championship qualifying.

Hearts would appear in good spirits but the same cannot be said about Kotoko, their next opponents, who had their morale completely deflated by King Faisal as they lost the derby at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors were beaten 3-2 in the late kick off game with the pressure suddenly mounting on coach Ebo Mends going into the next game.

Faisal took a commanding 3-0 lead before the 45 minute through George Ekow Annan, Samuel Adade and Abdul Wahab. But on the stroke of halftime, Alex Asamoah pulled one back for Kotoko.

With five minutes left on the clock, Daniel Nii Adjei reduced the deficit but it came too late to give the Porcupine Warriors any hopes of salvaging a draw at least.

The defeat by Kotoko allows Kessben FC to open a 3-point lead at the top of the table after beating BA Stars 3-1 at the Sekondi Sports Stadium earlier in the day.

A brace by James Boadu and one from Hans Kwoffie handed the leaders all the spoils with Daniel Larbi getting a consolation for BA Stars.

Yakubu Mohammed's 31st minute strike gave AshantiGold all the three points at the Kpando Park where they beat Heart of Lions 1-0. The win was the Miners' first in five seasons at Kpando.

Opoku Manu scored twice for Berekum Arsenals as they posted a 2-1 home success over Mighty Jets at the Golden City Park. Richard Manu equalised for Jets after Manu had put them in front but the striker found the winner late on in the game.

New Edubiase beat Chelsea 2-0 at home with striker Stephen Manu settling the tie under 15 minutes as he netted both goals at the Gyemfis Park in Bekwai. However Manu was carried off after picking an injury in the second half.

Aduana Stars fought back to pick a point as they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at home by Ebusua Dwarfs.

Real Tamale United finally picked themselves off the bottom of the table despite playing out goalless with Liberty Professionals at the Tamale Sports Stadium.
