Ambitious plans are being drawn up for the Ghanaian League system to tap into the workings of the English Premier League.

Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi on Monday disclosed that the sport body has been in discussions with the EPL team, led by chief executive, Richard Scudamore.

The English Premier League has continually expanded in popularity since its inaugural season in 1992/93, becoming the highest viewed and one of the richest in the world.

Scudamore would arrive with his team to begin the process of helping Ghana improve its football league structure.

“The EPL chief executive Richard Scudamore will come to Ghana by next month for us to hold preliminary talks on improving our league,” Nyantakyi said.

“They will help us with the expertise they used to make their league the most popular in the world.

“Scudamore was instrumental in the setting up of the professional leagues in South Africa, Nigeria and Ethiopia so we are looking at a similar deal.

“But that is not the only thing we will do because there are country-specific problems which we must address internally.

“We will set up a meeting with all stakeholders and examine these things to ensure that there is a holistic approach to tackling the problem of our local leagues.”
