Ahead of their first group game with Zambia, head coach of Ghana’s Futsal National Team – Philip Boakye - says his side is the underdog in the competition but will spring a surprise.

Ghana will take on Zambia at 17:00 GMT in Rabat in their first group game on Thursday at the Salle Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The West Africans are set for their second appearance in the fast-paced highly technical indoor football competition after their first appearance in 1996.

The tournament will be played between 11 - 21 April, 2024 in the Moroccan capital.

"We are the underdogs," Boakye said ahead of the opener at the pre-match press engagement.

Ghana will be facing Andreas Cristoforetti's Zambia at the magnificent Salle Prince Moulay Abdellah.

"Zambia has a very good team and they qualified from the playoffs. We’re here to qualify for the World Cup and that’s our ambition," Philip added.

The Ghanaian coach heaped praise on the facilities at the two venues for the 7th edition of the tournament.

The Salle Prince Moulay Abdellah and the Salle IBN Yassine are equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities for a world class tournament.

"The surface here is one of the best I have seen. The structures are one of the best and I hope other countries will learn from Morocco.

“In Ghana we are now improving with the new stadium that was built for the 13th African Games. There is a standard Futsal field in that stadium”, concluded the coach.
