Central Region begin title defence With 2-1 win over Greater Accra in Elite U17 Girls Colts Championship opener

Central Region began their title defence with a 2-1 victory over Greater Accra in their opening fixture of the Elite U17 Girls Colts Championship in Prampram.

Greater Accra took the lead through Vida Boafo to give the hosts an early advantage.

Lordina Sam restored parity for the defending champions before Benedicta Abakah snatched a late winner in the final minutes to hand Central Region maximum points.

In the second game, Western Region and Upper East Region played out a 1-1 draw in regulation time before the match was decided on penalties.

Western Region edged their opponents 5-3 in the shootout to claim the crucial extra point.

The GFA Elite Academy fell to Northern Ladies by a goal to nil.

In a keenly contested encounter, Mohammed Ruhia’s strike was enough to seal the win for Northern Ladies.

Ashanti Region thrashed Volta Region 4-0 in the last game of the opening day.

Franklina Onyina asserted her dominance with a hat-trick to put the game beyond Volta Region. Georgette Torsu also got on the scoresheet to wrap up a 4-0 win for Ashanti Region.

The tournament continues with Matchday Two on Friday.
