The West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B, in collaboration with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has officially confirmed Burkina Faso as the host nation for the Zonal Phase of the 2025 African Schools Football Championship.

The prestigious youth football competition will take place from December 2 to 4, 2025, bringing together some of the brightest young talents from across West Africa for an exciting showcase of skill, teamwork, and sporting excellence.

The 2025 edition in Burkina Faso will mark the fourth installment of the WAFU B Zonal Phase, following successful tournaments hosted by Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Niger in previous years. The Zonal Phase serves as a qualifying stage for the Continental Phase of the African Schools Football Championship, where the best-performing school teams from each region compete for continental glory.

In 2024, Ghana hosted the Continental Phase of the championship and delivered an impressive performance. The Ghanaian girls’ team triumphed over Uganda with a 2–1 victory in the final to claim the title, while the boys’ team secured third place, defeating Uganda by the same scoreline to earn the bronze medal.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship was launched in April 2022 in Maputo, Mozambique, by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

Since its inception, the initiative has grown rapidly, with more than 1.96 million boys and girls from 46 African countries taking part in the programme. This makes it the most successful youth football mobilization movement on the continent, providing young footballers with a platform to develop their talents both on and off the field.
