Dominic Adiyiah believes so many factors conspired against him during his time with Italy's AC Milan but is hopeful of turning things around at Partizan Belgrade.

The young striker helped Ghana to win the Fifa U-20 World Cup in 2009 and bagged the top-goalscorer prize and player of the tournament award.

A month after the tournament in Egypt, he was on by the Italian side from Norwegian club Fredrikstad.

But Adiyiah, who was part of Ghana's World Cup squad in South Africa struggled to break through at Milan, as he was loaned out to Serie B side Reggina.

The 21 year-old player had few opportunities to impress in the Serie B but he recently opted to join Serbian side Partizan on loan and the initial signs look quite promising after scoring four goals in six friendly appearances.

Adiyiah in an interview with mtnfootball.com explained that he was not daunted by the big names at Milan which included Ronaldinho and Filippo Inzhagi but was prepared to fight for a place.

"I don’t take a defeatist attitude in my life therefore I wanted to go in there and fight for place even though I knew the other experienced and top senior players were there," he said.

"I wanted to go there to fight and in life it is only when you take on big challenges that you can become great. That’s why I went there to fight for a place and show the coaches what I am capable of doing."

However, Adiyiah failed in his bid to get picked ahead of such experienced players as he was down Leonardo's [then Milan coach] pecking order.

He says the return of David Beckham on loan complicated matters for him.

"There were many factors that conspired against me and the first one was the number of foreign players at the club. AC Milan were allowed to use only three foreign players in a game and with most of the established players foreigners my opportunities were severely affected.

"Also as this went on coach Leonardo continued to build my confidence by insisting my time would come.

"When David Beckham arrived it worsened by plight because as an experienced senior player it was extremely difficult for them to drop him for me. It was then that I realized that I must move on loan to get playing time so that I can stay in top shape. I was always with the first team called for camp but the sticking point was the foreign-player rule."

For the rejuvenated Adiyiah, Partizan might just be the perfect platform to relaunch himself after Uruguay's Luis Suarez denied him the opportunity to get back into the limelight once again when he blocked his goal-bound header for Ghana in the quarter-finals at the World Cup in South Africa last year.

"I want to help the club to win the Serbian league title by the end of the season so that we can play in Champions League next season.

"Secondly I was to continue to build on my form by playing regular competitive football."
