New Caf Executive Committee member, Kwesi Nyantakyi believes the election of a new breed of administrators onto the governing body of the game on the continent would help reform and improve football in Africa.

The Ghana Football Association President was on Wednesday elected to represent the Zone West B bloc on the Caf Executive Committee after beating Benin’s Moucharafou Anjorin.

Nyantakyi won by a margin of 34 votes to 19 by Anjorin as 53 delegates went to the polls in Khartoum, Sudan.

For the elated Nyantakyi, 43, the election result was welcome news on his first attempt for a continental post after months of campaigning.

“Yeah, it’s [victory] a dream come true,” Kwesi Nyantakyi said in his first interview on the BBC after clinching victory yesterday.

“I have been looking forward to this day and finally it’s come. I am very, very excited about it.”

The results after Wednesday’s elections have brought a new wave of change as six new members joined the Executive Committee of Caf.

Among them were Kalusha Bwalya and Leodegar Tenga. Both won from their zones and Nyantakyi believes the introduction of new members would bring fresh leadership at the top of Caf in the supreme interest of football on the continent.

“I also think that my election, sought of provides another dimension to football management in Africa. At least myself, Kalusha [Bwalya] and Tenga [Leodegar] have been elected and I believe the experiences that we have gained over the years, the successes and all the expertise in us would be brought to bear on African football,” the Ghana FA President said.

Nyantakyi explains that they [newly elected members of the Executive Committee] would help push the development agenda for the game with African football having benefited in recent times from such leading examples like Ghana’s performances on the world stage.

“And we expect to help President Hayatou [Caf President] to drive further the agenda of development for African football,” he said.
