The penultimate round of matches for the first round of the Women’s Premier League will be honored across centres with some interesting but tricky duels expected this weekend.

The Northern Zone will be headlined with the much anticipated Bono derby where Ampem Darkoa Ladies travels to the Sunyani Coronation Park to square it off with Prisons ladies. Here is a quick Preview of matches in the Northern Zone.

FABULOUS LADIES X PEARL PIA LADIES

The Bantama Astro Turf will host the tie between Fabulous Ladies and Pearl Pia Ladies. Fabulous Ladies have been quite consistent in front of goal and would aim to continue their sublime form after going two matches without defeat. FC Savannah was the latest casualty as Princess Owusu scored to take her tally to 7 and leads the top scorers chart in the Northern Zone. Pearl Pia Ladies on the other hand will be going into this game on the back of the draw against rivals Northern Ladies.

DREAMZ LADIES X KUMASI SPORTS ACADEMY

Dreamz Ladies have been on a roller coaster after 7 matches in the elite League with their last match being a win against Ashtown Ladies in the Kumasi derby. After all the rocky performances, they have been able to maintain a top 3 spot on the Northern League table with 13 points. Captain Stella Nyamekye is also in the top scorers’ race with 6 goals. Kumasi Sports Academy on the other hand defeated Prisons Ladies with a goal to nil, thus securing all 3 points in their last match week, a victory which propelled them from 9th to the 6th position with 8 points. This weekend presents another Kumasi derby as these two sides face each other at the Bantama Astro Turf. Both sides are beaming with confidence from the previous victories as they aim to pick a win before the end of the first round.

SUPREME LADIES X FC SAVANNAH

This weekend offers an opportunity for another mouthwatering fixture as Supreme Ladies host FC Savannah in Kumasi. Supreme Ladies have been inconsistent with their performance with the latest one been a 7:3 defeat to Ampem Darkoa Ladies in Techiman. The poor run has inadvertently affected the team’s position on the league table, accumulating 7 points and dropping from 6th - 8th. FC Savannah were also shocked in their own backyard as Fabulous Ladies put 3 past them before a consolation goal came from Abdulai Karima. Both teams would come into this particular fixture with a redemption mindset and whoever plays the cards well could run riot with all 3 points at stake.

NORTHERN LADIES X ASHTOWN LADIES

Northern Ladies FC and Ashtown Ladies FC will battle it out for the three points in this fixture at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium Tamale. The two sides are inconsistent on the League table with Northern Ladies FC on 4 points and bottom (10th) placed on the log whilst Ashtown Ladies FC are on 10 points and 5th on the League log. With two matches to end the first round, Northern Ladies Coach Sumani Basirudeen assures their fans there will be a turnaround to avoid slipping to relegation. A win for Northern Ladies could see them move from the relegation zone while Ashtown Ladies aim to break into the top Three.

PRISONS LADIES X AMPEM DARKOA LADIES

One of the fiercest rivalries in the Women’s League will be rekindled this weekend in the Bono derby to serve the people of Sunyani at the Coronation Park. Prisons Ladies have won just twice in the League this season, coming off a lackluster display against Kumasi Sports Academy on Match Week 7. They are in desperate need to produce a positive performance to make up for their poor run. Ampem Darkoa have had a very soft landing coming up in the form of Supreme Ladies on match week 7 and put up a solid performance to climb up the league log.  Matches between both sides have always been a blockbuster and this upcoming fixture will not be an exception. Even though these fixtures turn to be physically contested over the years, a  more tactical game is expected from both sides this time.
