Black Starlets head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has conducted an inspection of the training pitches earmarked for the Black Starlets ahead of their first official session at the WAFU B U17 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire. He was accompanied by the team’s Welfare Officer, Waisu Ali Mohammed, as they toured the facilities on Wednesday.
The Black Starlets will be using three training grounds during the tournament: the CKB Annex at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, the Central Field of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny National Polytechnic Institute, and the Southern Field of the same institute.
These venues have been approved by tournament organizers, WAFU Zone B, to host teams’ training sessions during the group stages.
Dr. Ogum’s inspection was aimed at ensuring the pitches meet the team’s technical and medical standards, and to identify any logistical issues before the players arrive for training.
The coach expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation and facilities, commending the local organizing committee for their efforts in readying the grounds.
The Black Starlets have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Niger in what promises to be an exciting and competitive pool.
The team’s technical handlers believe early familiarization with the training facilities will give the Black Starlets an edge in their quest for qualification to the Africa U17 Cup of Nations.
The team arrived in Côte d’Ivoire earlier this week and have been based in Yamoussoukro as they gear up for the start of the tournament.
Ghana will play Togo on Saturday in their first game of the tournament.
