Portsmouth have completed the club record signing of Sulley Muntari from Udinese.

The Ghana midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal at Fratton Park after agreeing personal terms with the club.

He becomes Harry Redknapp's third new acquisition of the summer following the arrivals of Sylvain Distin and Hermann Hreidarsson.

"We tried to get him in the last two transfer windows but Udinese didn't want to sell so we are delighted he's finally coming to Fratton Park," Redknapp told the club's official website.

"He's got a great left foot and has great energy with the ability to run all day.

"I first saw him at the World Cup against Brazil and he was the best player on the pitch."

The 22-year-old Muntari has expressed his delight at joining Pompey and is determined to help the club qualify for Europe next term.

"Portsmouth are a fantastic club with class players such as Pedro Mendes, Sol Campbell David James and Kanu, and a great manager in Harry Redknapp.

"I have been a Pompey supporter ever since they first wanted me a year ago and I have watched as many games as I could.

"The fans are great and they really love their football.

"I am looking forward to playing in front of them and helping the club make a push for European competition."

Portsmouth have chosen not to disclose the exact transfer fee but have confirmed they paid Udinese more than the £4.4million Auxerre received for Benjani Mwaruwari in January 2006.
