Stars sparkle in Sekondi

A host of Ghanaian internationals, from past and present, took part in the charity ball played on Saturday at the Gyandu park in Sekondi as the Anthony Yeboah XI side wins the game.

The charity ball was organised by Ghana’s Stars to raise money for some orphanages in the country.

And Former Ghana striker, Anthony Yeboah led a select side to win the game 3-2 against the team led by Anthony Baffoe, also a former Black Stars player.

Yeboah sold out some ten minutes of play in the first half before his substitution while Baffoe played out the entire duration of the game.

On the day, the score cards was dominated by present members of the Black Stars team with Sulley Muntari after 30 minutes of play shooting past goalkeeper Richard Kingson to put the Anthony Baffoe XI into the lead.

Anthony Baffoe XI side held onto their solitary lead to end the first half 1-0 on top.

Back from recess, Ghana captain, Stephen Appiah put both sides on level pegging as he got the equaliser for the Anthony Yeboah XI.

But the Anthony Baffoe XI again shot into the lead this time through Liberty Professionals attacker, Emmanuel Allan.

Ghana striker, Matthew Amoah cancelled out the lead by Anthony Baffoe XI after equalizing for the Anthony Yeboah XI.

With time ticking away and a draw looking to the increasingly possible, Appiah saved the best for the last when he won the day for Anthony Yeboah XI side.

The game featured a blend of both past and present Black Stars players.

Augustine Arhinful, Yaw Preko, Sulley Muntari, Laryea Kingson, Baba Adamu Armando, Daniel Addo, Nii Odartey Lamptey and Mohammed Gargo all featured in the match.

Ghana-born German international, Gerald Asamoah would also in attendance though he did not play in the game.

The match dubbed 'Anthony Baffoe XI versus Anthony Yeboah XI' was aimed at raising funds to support the work of Orphanage Africa in Adenta, a suburb of Accra some homes in the Sekondi locality.

Baffoe, who is the coordinator of the initiative, said he was moved by the plight of the disadvantaged in the society and decided to try and contribute.

"It is also a form of serving the nation and giving back what it has given us," Baffoe said.
